Christmas at Broadbeach Kindergarten.

Christmas is a very special time at Broadbeach Kindergarten. We celebrate the end of our year with our children and their families in a number of ways. Firstly – we begin to decorate our room. We add tinsel, sparkle, glitter and glitz! We paint and collage, we draw and we colour.

We decorate our special “belonging” Christmas tree together, we string lights and we hang our decorations made by the children.

Once the room is glammed up we begin to practice for our annual Christmas concert. Both groups of children sing their hearts out for their friends and families – and receive rapturous applause for their amazing voices! Each child gives their families their special Christmas gift which has been made with love – and the cause of much lip zipping as children struggle to keep their presents a surprise! Families join us after the concert for a wonderful morning tea where we all come together to celebrate their children’s journey at Broadbeach Kindergarten.

Through stories, poetry and song we tell our children the “true” meaning of Christmas and explain why we celebrate this special day. This is reinforced by a visit from the “Little Theatre for Children” who tell The Christmas Story with puppetry and music.

The children and their families are asked to donate a new toy for the Salvation Army Christmas appeal. We encourage our children to think of children who may not be as lucky as they are, who might not receive a Christmas gift this year and who might need a special something to make their Christmas wondrous. Once all the gifts are donated The Salvos come into the kindergarten to collect them and have a chat to the children about where their gifts will go and how happy the children who receive them will be.

Our last week of the year involves parties, presents and FUN! Each group celebrates their last few days of kindy with their teachers with our fun filled party days. Games are played, the BBQ is fired up, music is danced to and delicious treats are consumed! Children and teachers reflect over the past year and share memories of our favourite moments.

Once the party is over – the farewells begin. This is a very humbling time of year for teaching staff as we reflect on how far each and every one of kindy children have come and the challenges they have overcome. We realise how much they grown in so many wonderful ways and that they are now ready to take on the challenges of prep. This is a time of conflicting emotions for us – we are so proud to see the emotional and social maturity that our children have gained, the friendships they have formed and the learning they have achieved. However – it is also a time of great sadness as we say goodbye to children and families we have welcomed into our kindy family – and into our hearts!

We would like to thank all our kindy families for their support, their respect and their friendship throughout their year at Broadbeach Kindergarten. It has been a joy and a pleasure spending time with them all and we hope they will always consider us part of their extended family!!

Merry Christmas everyone – may the joys of the holiday season be with you all.

Take care, safe travels and look after one another.
